Shanghai releases today.

Here comes another filmy friday and Dibakar Banerjee's Shanghai hits the theatre. The film is considered as this year's one of the most anticipated bollywood movies, based on the political scenarios of this country. Okay, that's not a unique or new plot, so why should one be eager to watch this movie?

First of all, it's a Dibakar Banerjee's film so one would expect it to be offbeat, yet entertaining like his previous flicks (Khosla Ka Ghosla, Oye Lucky Lucky Oye, Love Sex Aur Dhoka) which were all liked by the audience. Shanghai is a political thriller starring Abhay Deol, Emraan Hashmi and Kalki Koechlin. These actors have delivered good performances in the past so it will be nice to watch them together in a movie. The film also stars Prosenjit Chaterjee.

The appearance of the characters of Abhay Deol and Emraan Hashmi have made the movie look even more interesting. Emraan's charater of 'Jogi Parmar' has already become famous right from the first trailer. The character looks way too different from the "lover-boy" roles he plays in all Bhatt camp movies. Here in Shanghai, he plays a dark complexioned, buck-toothed character, not attractive at all. This makes it unusual for the kind of roles he has done in past. Emraan can surely be regarded as one of the major reasons one would be tempted to watch this movie. The other major role is played by Abhay Deol. His look too is quite interesting and completely opposite to that of Emraan's. Abhay plays a bureaucrat, looks totally sophiscated. It's a matter of curiosity as to see how this character is projected in the movie. Also one looks forward to see how Kalki's character is placed in the this socio-political drama.

The music of Shanghai by Vishal-Shekhar is good too. The track "bharat mata ki jai" has already become very famous because of its lyrics which offers great sarcasm on the present state of India. Some political parties even found the song offending due to which it landed in a legal trouble. But no harm to the movie, the song is still there and is being liked by the audience.
Shanghai is set against the backdrop of politics. People can expect much from it. Dibakar Banerjee has offered intelligent cinema with a lot of entertainment in all his movies. It would be interesting to watch what this one offers. So how many of you are going to watch it?
