The South Indian touch in Bollywood

Bollywood seem to be highly influenced by the films made in South India. From past few years bollywood is producing many films which are remake of some or the other South Indian superhit. Remake of South Indian films seems to be the easiet way for achieving a blockbuster movie. If we look at some of the superhit movies of past few years, we get to know that most of them are just remakes of South Indian films.

Ghajini, Wanted, Ready, Bodyguard, Dabang, Singham and the very latest Rowdy Rathore. All superhit movies and all are remakes of South Indian flicks. However, it is not a new thing of remaking South Indian movies. Film makers have experimented with this idea in the past but it is now that this formula is really rising up. Directors have a keen interest in the films being made in South. The reason, no doubt, is the entertainment quotient of those films which is being loved by the audience not just in South but in  the whole country. The proof of this is success of the movies like Singham, Bodyguard, Wanted, Dabang etc. All these films have met with record breaking opening and magnificent collections all over India.

The question is, what really makes the audience love the "madras touch" in Bollywood movies?

It can be noticed that the smashing action has made its comeback in bollywood and the audiences are loving it. The fight sequences (sometimes like the Rajnikanth action) taken from the South are providing great delight for the action lovers. The theme of triumph of good over evil, loud melodrama, loud action, actors flaunting moustache and the cop look with moustache the and aviators, raunchy dialogues, bombastic one liners are being really very popular among the people. Audiences love to see their favorite actors deliver catchy dialogues. They are loving to watch all these elements in a film. Also the dhinchak songs and dance provides great lot of entertainment.  Therefore, these are providing a lot of advantage for the films which are made by remaking South Indian films.

Another benefit for the film makers is that they get a readymade story or plot which is already a hit in South, so the chances are less that it will be a flop as a hindi masala movie. This adds on to the elements which make the remakes a super hit.

Many people may not like this kind of cinema but it has been seen that the majority loves it. Therefore, bollywood is moving more and more towards the South. Be it Salman Khan, Ajay Devgan or Akshay kumar. These superstars too are bent on doing remakes of South fims in order to deliver a hit. Also, it has been noticed that new stories and plots without such "madras touch"  have not been a success in past 1 or 2 years. Movies like Ra.one, Tezz, Agent Vinod, Ek Main Aur Ek Tu  flopped at the box office. The conclusion being made is that the majority audience is loving action packed, masala movies like that of South films. Hence, its sure that more and more film makers and actors are going induldge in this formula for achieving great milestones. But we also hope that they come up with new stories and deliver somewhat different kind cinema as this formula of remaking South Indian movies may not be liked for long!
